Secret Life of Bees

One of my favorite books is being made into a movie! The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd has been adapted for the big screen and will be released this summer. The movie will star Dakota Fanning as Lilly, which I think is spot on casting. Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson and Queen Latifah also have starring roles in the film. You can read more about it here. I'm not usually crazy about movies, especially movies adapted from a book that I love, but I'm anxious to see how this one turns out.

nymeth, I put this book right up there close to To Kill a Mockingbird. It had that kind of an effect on me. I hope the movie's good, too. I think they did a good job choosing a cast. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Thanks for the great information. I didn't know it was being made into a movie. Sounds like a great cast. I look forward to it.

Like you, I get a bit nervous about movies from books I love. This cast sounds stupendous - I love Dakota Fanning.

So I will be in line to see this one (with fingers crossed!)

I tend to agree with you on the casting. Between Dakota Fanning and Queen Latifah, the possibility of a great film is certainly there. I liked the book, but must admit I didn't love it. However, some years since I read it, I can still remember bits and pieces of it. Sue Monk Kidd has an interesting body of work.

ravenous reader, I'll keep my fingers crossed, as well!

jill, the casting is great. I'm surprised we had a different reaction to this one. Maybe it's simply the timing. Oh well, it had to happen eventually. hehe

Maggie, maybe we should do an Irish jig in honor of St. Patrick's Day! :)

You know this is one of my all time favorites.
I hope the movie stays true to the story and that way doesn't take away from it.
Maybe we can go see it together this summer.

Cindy, this is definitely one of my favorites, as well. I hope the movie doesn't disappoint, and I can't wait to see it. I haven't heard exactly when it's supposed to be out this summer. But, as soon as I find out, I'll give you a call!
